General Questions
How do you gather your trail information?
I drive all of the trails first hand! I know you don’t feel sorry for me. I absolutely love what I do and I savor every beautiful or rainy day on the trails. I put a lot of hard work into making sure the information is accurate and reliable.
How do you rate the trails?
This is the best service I can offer to the public because its only me driving the trails. The ratings are consistent as opposed to having multiple people on different vehicles choose ratings. I use a basic EASY, MODERATE and DIFFICULT rating detailed here. I also use the colors black and brown as well as line thickness to determine what road conditions were when I drove them. Remember, too, trail conditions can change quickly; it may have been different when we drove it.
What vehicles do you use?
I use three; 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland (stock), 2021 Polaris RZR Trails and Rocks Edition (stock), and a 2019 Yamaha Grizzly (stock).
What GPS format do you use?
Degrees, Decimal Minutes rounded to the 100th. Datum WGS84. I have found that this format allows you to type in the coordinate into almost any website mapping program or app the most easily.
How often are the maps updated?
There is no set time, really. It just depends on how quickly things change out there. My goal is to connect with locals as I build maps. This allows me to utilize locals to assess if a new version of the map is required.
Do I need to replace my current version with the newest one?
Please do. Trails close, new ones open, trails get altered and impacted by weather and regular use, sometimes changing the entire terrain. The goal is to guide you on exciting and updated adventures, so stay up to date so you can enjoy the ride!
Will you ever release maps for more places?
There are great trails in so many states. I never want to compromise the integrity of the current maps to gain more titles. I try to visit 3-4 new areas every year to add to the collection. That is the priority right now.
Why don’t you sell directly from your site?
It’s really a preference first to not be tied to a desk allowing me to be out mapping more trails. Other reasons are the need for shipping and storage resources.
